Want a salmon on fly but don't know how?

Postby Graeme » Thu Mar 09, 2017 10:09 am

The salmon will be in the Perth Metro area soon and it's time to hone the fly casting skills. WA salmon are an ideal species for people to get their teeth into heavy SW fly fishing on. They readily take flies, there are plenty of them and they fight like bastards!

I'm running an all-day casting clinic on 25th March with the goal of getting more Perth fishermen using fly gear rather than lures or - shudder - bait to catch salmon. If you know someone who has always said "I want to get a salmon on fly this year" but then reverted to form when the time came, please let them know about this clinic.

It's also open to any WA fly fishermen who know their casting could use some improvement, especially with regards to casting large flies in windy conditions. (Remember, Boneheads is nearly here too! ;) )

I'll be running through all aspects of casting heavy lines, beginning with a run-through of the basics of casting and ending up with double hauling into head winds and presenting on the back-cast. I'll also discuss the flies we use, the lines to use (and when to use them) and the tactics involved in fighting big fish on a fly rod.

The cost of the clinic is $100. Places are limited to 10 people (if demand is higher than expected, I'll run a second clinic the following day.)

To secure a place in the clinic, send me a message here, phone me on 0400 340 900 or email me on graeme.hird@gmail.com

Cheers,
Graeme
